Teachers play a vital role in our society. Not only do they help teach the younger generations about various subjects, but they can also play an influential role in their students’ lives and help shape them into the citizens they will become.
Kaleb Fischer teaches Algebra 1 and Geometry to ninth and tenth graders at Weatherford High School. He is in his first year of teaching at the high school, he previously taught at Weatherford Middle School. He says that one of the main reasons that he decided to become an educator was because his life was impacted by teachers.
“I wanted to teach and coach because of the influences that my teachers and coaches had on me,” he said. “One of my most influential teachers was Janie Jackson, who was my high school math teacher. She was tough and had high expectations for us but we always had a great time in her class. She made learning very enjoyable.”
Knowing that he is having an impact on his students’ life by helping them with their education, Fisher likes to see his students do things they did not expect to be able to do.
“I enjoy helping kids see that they are capable of doing more than what they think they can,” Kaleb stated. “I also enjoy building relationships with our students.”
Throughout his teaching career so far, Fischer has been given numerous pieces of advice. Out of all of them, he has one that still sticks with him each day.
“Students don’t really care how much you know, they just want to know that you care,” he stated. “When you do that then you will see them want to work harder for you.”
When he is not teaching in the classroom, Kaleb enjoys spending time with his fiance, Natalie. He also likes to run and watch his students participate in theri events.
