Weatherford Eagles 2023 Boys Basketball Preview Presented by Jackie Dickerson Shelter Insurance

WEATHERFORD EAGLES

BOYS

Coach: Derrick Bull

22-23 Record: 28-2

Supreme experience and overall size will put Weatherford right at the top of the list for strong contenders for a state championship in Class 4A. The Eagles return all five of their starters from last year’s state runner-up team that went 28-2 under head coach Derrick Bull. “We return all five starters. Height should be a huge advantage for us as we start 6-foot-7, 6-foot-7, 6-foot-6, 6-foot-6, and 6-foot-2,” Bull said. CJ Nickson, Nate Reherman, Tate Sage, and Ethan Sage are each VYPE Top 100 candidates. Nickson is one of the top overall athletes in the state. The 6-foot-6 junior guard/forward averaged 20.8 points per game last season and has offers from Tulsa and Oral Roberts. Nickson also excels on the gridiron as a 4-star wide receiver/linebacker who has offers from a host of schools, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Tennessee, and Auburn. Reherman (6-6, F, Sr.) averaged 11.5 points per game and 6.3 rebounds as a junior. “Nate is our senior leader and leads us both on and off the floor,” Bull said. “He’s a tireless worker who takes pride on the defensive end.”

Tate Sage (6-7, G, Jr.) gives Weatherford a huge size advantage in the backcourt. He averaged 10.2 points in 2022-23. Twin brother Ethan Sage (6-7, F, Jr.) averaged 8.6 points.

Sophomore guard Jackson Smith (6-2) started every game for the Eagles as a freshman last season and averaged 4.1 points. “We look for [Jackson] to play an even bigger role this season,” Bull said. Cash Jennings (6-0, G, Jr.) will also factor into the mix this season.
