Athlete Spotlight with Weatherford’s Emma Glassey – Presented by Corn Heritage Village & Rehab

For Weatherford Freshman Cheerleader Emma Glassey, cheerleading is much more than just an activity; it is a sport that has grown her character and shifted her mindset in more ways than one. “What motivates me with cheerleading is wanting to constantly get better at my tumbling skills and doing my job as a base well,” Glassey said. While cheer is her main sport, Glassey is trying out tennis this year as well. “To be successful in any sport takes effort and drive and just showing up every day. It’s a mindset thing too,” Glassey said.

For Emma, she has many people she looks up to in the cheer world that have helped shape her skills, specifically those in the All-Star Cheer realm, including Angel Rice, a renown tumbler. One of her fellow cheer squad members, Curtis Turney, is someone that has had a big impact on her because “he is very supportive and always positive.” At school, Emma said that her teachers have been a big influence on her as well, but especially Miss Boecker, the home-ec teacher.

Glassey is passionate about cheering and being able to represent her school at games, on the road and at competitions. “One of my favorite moments was doing the Gameday competition this year we took part in because I love to compete but I also want to have fun and not take myself too seriously,” she said. “Being able to represent the Weatherford community as a cheerleader is an honor and it’s not something a lot of people get to do. I’m happy that I get to be a part of it!”

Glassey is a base and tumbler for Weatherford High School and is excited to continue her cheer career over the next 3.5 years of high school. “I want to bring positivity through cheerleading and continue to get better at my sport! I love my squad and am always learning from other members,” Glassey said. It’s clear that Glassey has the right mindset to succeed and will be a positive impact on the cheer squad in the years moving forward.
