Weatherford’s Reno Hamons – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jackie Dickerson – Shelter Insurance

Athletes work hard in the offseason to prepare themselves for when the season begins. They want to be at their best so they can help their team be successful. Reno Hamons has put in the work and seen it pay off on the field.
“It has taken a lot of hard work and time for me to be successful in sports,” he said. “I think the highlight of my career would have to be when we beat Clinton in football this season. As a senior, that was a great win for us.”

Along with playing football, Hamons is also a member of the baseball team. For him, wearing the Eagle uniform is about more than just playing for himself.

“I’m proud to be able to represent my school and community when I play sports,” he said.

There have been people in his life who have helped Hamons become the player that he is today. He says that the guys in the locker room have played a big role.

“My teammates are my biggest influences because we spend a lot of time working together,” he said. “I enjoy working with Steele Chism in practice because he works hard and makes me a better athlete. I think that Wryland Wrecker is the least appreciated player on the football team because he was injured most of the season but helped the team out as much as he could. Another person that has made an impact on me is coach Sossamon because he is my weightlifting teacher and I’ve gotten stronger.”

There can be a lot of things that drive someone to work hard and be their best. Reno’s biggest motivation is easy to understand.

“Winning motivates me,” he said. “The team I enjoy beating the most is Clinton on the football field.”

While he puts in a lot of time to be a solid athlete, Hamons knows that it takes just as much work to be successful in the classroom.

“It takes a lot of focus to balance school work and activities,” he said.
