Grayson Grant, a senior at Weatherford High School, has made a name for himself on the water as a dedicated member of the school’s fishing team, combining skill, patience and perseverance to achieve success.
Grant said his proudest accomplishment came this past season when he finished ninth in the state, a milestone that reflected both his hard work and growth as an athlete.
“A top memory and something I am most proud of is finishing ninth in the state this past season,” Grant said.
Through competitive fishing, Grant has developed qualities that extend far beyond the sport. He credits fishing with teaching him patience and a positive mindset, even in challenging conditions.
“I have learned to have a lot of patience and how to stay positive,” he said.
Grant’s journey has been shaped by influential mentors and teammates along the way. He points to his agriculture teacher, Mr. Conkling, as someone who has made a lasting impact on his life.
“He has taught me a lot of life lessons and skills,” Grant said.
On the team, Grant said fellow angler Sam Kuykendall has been a driving force, pushing him to consistently improve.
“He always pushed me to fish as hard as I could,” Grant said.
Beyond athletics, Grant is active in Future Farmers of America and participates in the youth group at Weatherford Church of Christ, demonstrating his commitment to both school and community. He said one of his favorite aspects of Weatherford is the strong sense of support among residents.
“I love our community and how supportive they are of students,” he said.
Grant also carries with him advice that has shaped his outlook on life: “A man is never guaranteed tomorrow.” He said this perspective motivates him to make the most of every opportunity.
As he reflects on his high school experience, Grant expressed gratitude for those who have supported him along the way, including his parents, his grandfather and his Uncle Jarrod.
Looking ahead, Grant’s dedication and the lessons he has learned through fishing position him well for future success, both on and off the water. His story is one of steady determination, guided by strong influences and a deep appreciation for the people and community that have helped him grow.
