2025 Weatherford Lady Eagles – Softball Preview – Presented by Nabors Shoe Center

WEATHERFORD LADY EAGLES

Coach: RICK MORRIS

33-2 | 2024 Class 4A State Champions

SEASON OUTLOOK

Coming off a championship season, the Weatherford Lady Eagles are entering 2025 with momentum, confidence, and the drive to repeat. After finishing 33-2 and capturing the Class 4A state title, head coach Rick Morris knows the bar is set high — and he believes this group is ready to meet those expectations.

“Overall, expectations are once again very high,” said Morris. “We’re looking to continue to build off of the successes from the past several seasons.”

With six returning starters and several underclassmen ready to make their mark, the Lady Eagles will have a strong core to lean on. “A few starters will be moving positions vacated by the senior class, and the underclassmen will fit in where needed,” Morris said.

KEY PLAYERS

Leading the charge is senior Kaitlyn Bryant, the team’s three-year starting catcher and an anchor both defensively and as a leader. “Kaitlyn is a very talented and consistent player who will probably be playing second base at the next level,” said Morris. “I look for Kaitlyn to have a stellar year as both a player and a leader.”

Centerfielder Jossalyn Schulz, now a junior, brings speed, power, and elite instincts in the outfield. “Joss reads the ball as well as any outfielder out there,” said Morris. “With her unique combination of speed and power, we can put her at the top of the lineup or use her to clear the bases.”

Sophomore Addison Blackwell is another key returner after stepping up as a freshman last season. “Addie stepped in as a freshman last year to anchor our outfield,” said Morris. “She played left field, a position she had never played, and did a great job. Addie will be moving to the infield to help anchor our defense.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

One of the most important developments this season will be senior Maci Thain taking over the top pitcher role. “Maci moved to Weatherford last year and filled a big hole at third base and was our #2 pitcher,” said Morris. “She will step into the #1 pitching slot where I believe she can be dominant. Maci has fought through several injuries over the years but still continues to have a positive attitude.”

Senior first baseman Payton Mills adds vital leadership. “Her attitude and personality are second to none—she can always lighten the mood,” said Morris.

The defending champs are reloaded and ready for another title run.
