Weatherford Cross Country Character Counts – Ava Foster – Presented by Eagle Realty

Ava Foster is a cross country runner at Weatherford High School and has been competing in XC since junior high. Now as a junior in high school Foster runs for the Eagle cross country team and has been having a great year. Foster first began running in the sixth grade and was inspired to do so because of her friends’ decision to join the sport.

“All of my friends were doing it so they got to be announced for media night,” Foster said. “So I joined the next day.”

Over the years Foster has made many great friends and memories while competing for Weatherford, but some of her favorite moments occurred when she was able to train and compete with her sister, Peyton.

This year Foster has exceeded even her own expectations. Both she and Weatherford have run well throughout the season as October nears its end.

“This season has gone beyond my expectations,” Foster said. “Our team is great in the way we push each other to work harder.”

Foster had set a personal goal for herself to continuously improve throughout the season and qualify for state. In the coming week Weatherford will have its chance to qualify for state and in mid October Foster accomplished her goal of setting her own personal record.

Foster is grateful that she followed her friends into cross country and has learned many valuable lessons from the sport.

“I have learned that hard work pays off,” Foster said. “And to not eat a spicy chicken sandwich after a race!”

While Foster has been putting in effort in cross country she has also been hard at work in the classroom as well. Foster is a great student who is focused on her academics and is already looking ahead to life after high school. Foster said that she plans to attend a university where she will pursue a degree that focuses on STEM courses.
