There’s plenty of reason to be excited about this year’s Weatherford Eagles volleyball team — Just ask the man himself. “I love our team,” said head coach Scott Miller. “We’ve had great chemistry, zero drama and everyone has bought in. I really like our chances in all of our matches. We will always play hard and fight until the end. ‘Get better daily’ is our motto. Focus and effort is non-negotiable.” S/OH Saylor Paden (Sr.) is the team’s go-to. The seasoned veteran has played volleyball since the seventh grade and has persevered through countless intense sets. “She [Paden] is our most experienced player returning along with Braelee Epp. We will lean on her quite a bit. She will set, hit and do whatever we need of her. We expect a big year out of her,” Miller said. Similarly, Epp (Sr.) will play a crucial role at libero and setter. “She [Epp] does a little bit of everything for us,” Miller said. “She can set, play libero, even hit. She’s quick and is our defensive captain. We will rely a lot on her this upcoming year.” DS/Lib Emma Ratterree (Sr.), DS/OH/Lib Viva Bluth (Sr.) and DS/Lib Camdyn Falasco (Sr.) round out Miller’s 2025 senior class. Players like Tory Hume (Jr.) are the team’s pulse. She plays outside hitter. “Tory is as solid as they come. I’ve known her since she was a little girl. She has great parents and support,” Miller said. “Tory will give you her all and then some. I’m glad she’s a part of our team and volleyball family. Let’s go, Toad!” Alivia Loney (So.) made her varsity debut in the clutch last season and didn’t disappoint. This year, teams are anticipating her presence on the court. “She [Loney] got called up last year as a freshman for regionals and got to play due to an injury,” Miller said. “She stepped right in and played well. We expect big things from her in the next few years. It will be fun to watch her develop and grow.” The Eagles open the season at home Aug. 13 against Bethany. They’ll play in several tournaments, including the Best of the West (Aug. 16-17), the Weatherford Classic (Aug. 24) and the Bethany Tournament (Sep. 14).
