Athlete Spotlight with Weatherford’s Walker Kennedy – Presented by Corn Heritage Village & Rehab

Walker Kennedy is a senior at Weatherford High School. He was inspired to play basketball at an early age by his dad and brother. Walker started playing the sport when he was five and has loved it ever since. Walker has won first All-Team District and two times offensive player of the year. His favorite part about basketball is getting to play with the teammates and friends and having fun; all while still trying to win the coveted gold ball. His favorite sports moment for his athletic career so far, was making a deep playoff run in his sophomore year and having fun.

Walker’s biggest role model is his mom. He says “she pushes me and inspires me daily.” When times get tough, his family and friends are what keep him going. “My family and all of the people around me keep me motivated to keep playing the sports I love and I know that I can’t let them down, so I keep on pushing,” he says. Walker’s favorite subject is English, because that’s where his favorite teacher, Mrs. Weiberg teaches. She’s his favorite teacher because she makes the class fun for him. In his free time, Walker likes to hang out with his friends and family, and watch college ball. In the future, he hopes to play basketball at the collegiate level. He also hopes to get to continue playing the sport that he loves while earning a scholarship.

Sports have taught Walker “to push through hard things, and that anything is possible,” he says. He says “to be a great athlete, you have to be very physical and keep your body healthy, while also being very strong mentally.” The advice that he has for his fellow athletes is to never give up and to work hard when nobody is looking and it will pay off in the long run.
